Adventure Himalayan Trekking in Nepal
(Spring 2004) Gokyo Ri 5360m (Everest Region)
Everest Journeys was proud to arrange the trekking to Nepal Himalaya (Everest Region) for Japanese clients from Tokyo in Spring 2004 for their adventure and sherpa culture experience in Nepal. They landed in Kathmandu on the elevation of 1350m from sea level after Japan. Next day they started their journey by 17 seater small Airplane from Kathmandu to Lukla which elevation is 2840m from sea level and over night at Phakding 2610m. We had to make at least 2 nights in Namche Bazar 3440m for the acclimatization while we were going over 5000m, but we did not do so because of time frame so we made rapid ascent. We had to complete that trip within 12 days.
Ｐarticipants looked physically fit up to Machharmo 4470m for this trip to Gokyo Ri 5360m but unfortunately some of the member was attacked by high altitude sickness and some had just mild symptoms. Then I advised to stop those who have lost their appetite and unable to walk anymore for their safety trekking in the Himlaya. After few hours walking from Machharma to Phanga I found again some more clients attacked by AMS then I advised to descent back to Machharmo with my assistance for their safety but I continue with rest of the members to Gokyo. As soon as I reached in Gokyo, one of my staff came to me from Machharmo and asked to return to Machharmo for rescue the person who is badly sick from AMS.
Ｉ tried to call helicopter from there to Kathmandu but my satelite did not
work out because of bad weather so I discuss with my friend Paudel about the
Gokyo Ri summit for the next day with the rest of my clients then I ran to Machharmo.
It
took me about 50 minutes to get there from Gokyo. When I reached in Machharmo
one of the lady was treating by Australian doctor in the Gammof bag. I contacted
in Kathmandu for helicopter but because of bad weather helicopter could not
fly there on that day. Me, Kumoro sir, Australian doctor and my staff were taking
good care of the clients those who were suffering from AMS.
I got message from Gokyo in the evening that one of the client was again bit
sick and requested to evacuate by heli. All the night we did not sleep because
we had to use gammof for the lady for her safety. Next morning helicopter came
and I flew to Gokyo again to rescue the person who was suffering from AMS. I
bring them by helicopter to Kathmandu and took to International clinic. They
got better and better day by day. The rest of the members were returning after
summiting from Gokyo Ri. I went to see them in Lukla at the end and flew back
together to Kathmandu.
